Abstract
Coh-Metrix is a publicly available web tool that has been widely used for a decade by researchers, teachers and students to extract useful features of the texts they are interested in. The tool is mostly used in assessing the difficulty level of texts on five dimensions, namely, narrativity, syntax, concreteness, referential cohesion and deep cohesion. In addition to difficulty levels, Coh-Metrix also extracts about a 100 other text features that provide rich data for text analytics and text mining. In this talk, I will discuss the theoretic motivation, technological foundation in building Coh-Metrix. I will also provide examples to illustrate successful use of Coh-Metrix in solving practical problems.
